Place your trash and recycling curbside on Monday evening for Tuesday pick up.
Bulk pick up will occur the last Tuesday of the month.
Trash Service in Uwchlan Township
Make sure to put your trash & recycle carts curbside for collection the night before your pick up day.
- Casella carts must be used.
- Your carts should be at least 3 feet clear of any other objects including other carts, mailboxes, cars, street signs, etc.
- Wheels on your cart should be toward the house so that all materials are emptied.
- Be sure trash is bagged and lids are closed to prevent spills.
We cannot take:
- Hazardous waste including radioactive, reactive, toxic, ignitable, corrosive, or acidic items.
- E-waste including televisions, computers, etc.
- C & D (Construction and Demolition Materials) including concrete, roofing, and other home remodeling debris.

Bulk Waste
Large items of refuse such as worn-out furniture, Freon-free appliances, and other household goods which can be handled safely by two people.
Mattresses and Toilets
For our employees’ safety:
- Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic.
- Toilets must be bagged.
How to Schedule
Contact our Municipality Department by 12pm on the last Monday of the month to schedule:
Items Containing Freon
To dispose of items containing refrigerants residents must schedule pick up in advance and have the freon removed. The item must be marked with a certificate showing the freon has been removed.
This includes freezer, refrigerator, air conditioner, dehumidifier, water cooler.
- All doors must be removed prior to pick up.
- These items cannot be picked up with the regular truck.

Recycling Services
Recyclables must be clean and dry.
Do not bag recyclables.
If your recycling is contaminated it will be handled as trash.
Acceptable Items
All bottles and containers must be rinsed clean and dry.
Dirty recycling is contaminated recycling.
Shredded paper cannot be recycle. It clogs the recycling sorting line.
If paper is soiled or wet, compost or trash it.
Must be broken down.
If cardboard is soiled, compost or trash it.
Make sure containers are rinsed out and completely empty to avoid contamination.

Unacceptable Items
Plastic bags are not accepted as part of curbside recycling programs – they get tangled in equipment and threaten worker safety.
Plastic bags can be recycled at most grocery stores.
Plastic wrap, bubble wrap, sandwich bags and freezer bags should not go in the recycle bin.
Reuse whenever possible for presents, moving, or storage of similar items, or look for local options to recycle.
Flexible packaging like chip bags and juice or soup pouches cannot be recycled in curbside programs.
This type of packaging is made from multiple materials preventing it from being recycled.
Food and yard was cannot be recycled through our curbside program.
Compost or utilize UMT’s yard waste program.
Polystyrene foam, plastic “to-go” containers and cups are made of non-recyclable materials, and are not acceptable in the curbside recycling program.
Packing peanuts aren’t recyclable either, however some shipping stores will take peanuts back for reuse.
Yard Waste and Leaves
Pruning, branches, weeds, leaves, and general yard and garden wastes.
- Yard waste should be bundled in neat bundles not exceeding 4-6 feet in length, with branches limited to no greater than 5 inches in circumference.
- Leaves should be in compostable bags.
Yard waste DOES NOT include grass clipping or stumps and branches larger than 4.5” in diameter.

Yes, all residents of the borough must use the provided Casella carts for trash and recycle.
Follow the link below for local resources.
- Breakdown and flatten all boxes.
- Stack boxes neatly.
- Secure with tape or twine.
Bundles should be 4′ long x 1′ thick or less.

If you cannot repurpose your personal can you can put it out for collection on your trash day. It should be empty, marked with a red X, and place upside down to let the driver know you want it removed.
